Vitória have built the strangest record in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. In 15 home matches they have won 10, drawn 1 and lost 4. Away from home, across 14 matches, they have won 0. Not one.

The split explains almost everything about a season sitting 13th on 33 points after 28 games. 28 goals scored, 42 conceded, a goal difference of -14. The home form alone would put them near the top of the table. The away form alone would put them in the relegation zone.

The latest evidence came on Sunday 20 September, at Vitória, where Vitória lost 1-3 to Cruzeiro on matchday 28. That result extended a run of 1L and left the last five league games reading LLWDL.

So what happens next? Vitória host Chapecoense on Wednesday 7 October in matchday 29. On the numbers, that is the easiest fixture they could ask for. They have lost four home games all season.

It is not a small sample. Fifteen matches at home, fourteen away. The pattern has held for 28 rounds, and no adjustment has fixed it. A team that cannot take a single point on the road is not competing for anything above mid-table, however good it looks in its own stadium.

The wider table makes the cost clear. Flamengo lead on 60 points with a goal difference of +32, and Palmeiras sit second on 57. Paranaense are third on 49, Fluminense fourth on 48, Bahia fifth on 46, Cruzeiro sixth on 45.

Vitória are not in that conversation. Fix the away days, and maybe they will be. Until then, the home crowd keeps carrying a team that cannot travel.
