NEC 1–1 Go Ahead Eagles
The Eredivisie breaks off and comes back on Friday 9 October. Matchday 8 sends PSV into a meeting with Heerenveen, a fixture that lands three weeks after the last completed round.
That last round, on Sunday 20 September, finished 1-1 between NEC and Go Ahead. A draw, one point each, nobody moved much.
PSV arrive third. 16 points from their opening games, a goal difference of +14. Not bad. Not top.
The top belongs to AZ, who have 19 points and a goal difference of +12. Behind them sit Feyenoord on 17 with the strongest goal difference in the division at +18 — a strange-looking order, a leader with fewer goals to spare than the team chasing it. Twente also have 16 points, level with PSV, but a goal difference of just +8. Ajax are fifth on 14, and Sittard sixth on 13 with a negative goal difference of -1, which tells you how tightly the middle of this table is packed.
The scoring chart is just as crowded. Four men share the lead on 5 goals: Søren Tengstedt of Go Ahead, Milan Zonneveld of Sparta, Artem Stepanov of Utrecht, and Gjivai Zechiël of Feyenoord. Anis Moussa, also of Feyenoord, is right there with them on 5. Five names, one number.
So who blinks first?
PSV have the chance to close on the leaders, and Heerenveen have the chance to make the afternoon awkward. The gap between third and first is 19 points minus 16 — small enough that a single result reshuffles the top three.
Kick-off at 2026-10-09T18:00:00Z. The league, finally, is back.
