Raphinha sits alone at the top of the LaLiga scoring charts with 12 goals for Barça. The gap to the chasing pack is five. Nobody else has reached double figures.

Behind him, a four-way tie. Sergio Camello of Rayo Vallecano has 7. So does Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid, Yassir Zabiri of Santander, and Lamine Yamal of Barça. Four players, four clubs, one identical total. Ranked 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively, they are separated by nothing at all.

Two of them share a dressing room. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal both play for Barça, which means the league leaders carry the competition's leading scorer and a man level with three others. That is 19 goals from two players.

Where does that leave the table? Barça top it on 24 points with a goal difference of +27. Atleti are second on 19, Real Betis third on the same 19, Real Madrid fourth on 18. Sevilla FC and Real Sociedad complete the top six.

Worth pausing on Real Madrid. They sit fourth, four points off the pace, and their leading scorer is stuck on 7. At this level, that usually costs you.

Note the spread of clubs in the scoring list. Barça, Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid, Santander. Four different shirts among the top five places.

The league does not return until Friday 16 October. Deportivo host Levante when it does. Before that, the last round produced a 3-3 draw between Levante and Sevilla FC on Monday 12 October.

So the question is simple. Can anyone close five goals on Raphinha? Or does the top scorer's race end before it starts?
